Done with Yesterday

“Done With Yesterday” is about finding the courage to walk away from a relationship that has brought more pain than happiness.

Sometimes we keep waiting, looking for answers, or trying to hold together something that has already fallen apart. But eventually, we have to recognise that not everything can be saved, especially when one person is doing all the sacrificing.

The song follows that journey from disappointment to clarity. There's no revenge, no blame, and no bitterness to hold on to. Just the decision to stop living in the past and take control of the future.

Because moving on doesn't necessarily mean forgetting. Sometimes it simply means choosing yourself.

The words.

Verse 1

I burned the hours I could not spare

smoking out the cold night air

you kept your keys beside the door

while I kept asking you for more

I left the porch light on till three

you called it space, it felt like grief

I tried to hold a shifting ghost

and lost the parts I needed most

Pre-Chorus

Now the static is clearing up tonight

I am done with trying to fake the light

I do not hate you, it is just a quiet fact

I am walking out and I am not looking back

Chorus

I am done wasting words on yesterday

for someone who does not just drift away

I poured my blood into heavy sand

now I am taking my life back in my hands

Keep your keys, I will keep my pride

take your road, I will take mine

I was not made to fade to grey

I am done wasting words on yesterday

Post-Chorus

Better days

no more ghosts to chase

better days

I am out of this place

better days

watch me walk away

Verse 2

You kept your secrets in your coat

left all the heavy words unspoken

I wore a smile inside the dark

just to protect a dying spark

Now every shadow looks like rain

but there is a beauty in the pain

I am not bitter, I am not cruel

I just remembered my own rules

Pre-Chorus

Now the static is clearing up tonight

I am done with trying to fake the light

I do not hate you, it is just a quiet fact

I am walking out and I am not looking back

Chorus

I am done wasting words on yesterday

for someone who does not just drift away

I poured my blood into heavy sand

now I am taking my life back in my hands

Keep your keys, I will keep my pride

take your road, I will take mine

I was not made to fade to grey

I am done wasting words on yesterday

Bridge

Maybe your name will leave a scar

maybe I will wonder where you are

but I would rather bleed and heal

than waste my life on something not real

Final Chorus

I am done wasting words on yesterday

for someone who does not just drift away

I poured my blood into heavy sand

now I am taking my life back in my hands

Keep your keys, I will keep my pride

take your road, I will take mine

I was not made to fade to grey

I am done wasting words on yesterday

Post-Chorus

Better days

no more ghosts to chase

better days

I am out of this place

better days

watch me walk away

Outro

I am done with yesterday

I am done with yesterday

I am done with yesterday

watch me walk away

BEHIND THE SONG

How it began.

“Done With Yesterday” grew out of a reflection on how much time we can spend trying to save something that, deep down, we already know has come to an end.

I wanted to explore that particular moment when someone is no longer angry, no longer looking for explanations, and no longer trying to convince the other person to stay. They've simply reached the point where continuing would mean losing themselves.

The lyrics use small, everyday details to tell that story: keys left beside the door, a porch light burning until three in the morning, words left unspoken, and the endless wait for someone who is already drifting away.

They're ordinary images of a situation that gradually becomes impossible to live with.

But I didn't want the song to remain trapped in the pain of separation. The turning point comes when the main character stops trying to hold on to someone else and starts thinking about his own life.

He doesn't need to hate anyone or erase what happened. He accepts that some scars may remain, but decides that he can't keep sacrificing his future.

The title sums up that decision: no more wasting words on yesterday.

We can't change the past, but we can decide how much space we allow it to occupy in our present.

Keep listening.
