Pulsica

Pulsica brings together traditional Salento pizzica and contemporary dance music.

The sound of the tambourine, the driving rhythms of the taranta, and electronic elements come together in a track that keeps the spirit of southern Italian folk music alive while exploring a more modern sound.

Sung in the Salento dialect, the lyrics evoke vineyards, traditional farmhouses, the wind, and the ancient Plinian Spring in Manduria. These places and images connect the music to its roots while giving it a rhythm made for dancing.

Pulsica is pizzica with a new sound: traditional at heart, electronic in its energy, and firmly connected to the land it comes from.

BEHIND THE SONG

How it began.

Pizzica is part of the musical culture of the place where I come from. Its rhythm is instantly recognisable, especially the sound of the tambourine, which can make you want to move even if you don't understand a single word.

That's where the idea for “Pulsica” came from: bringing together pizzica and dance music, two styles that may seem quite different but actually share something essential. Both are built around rhythm and movement.

I wanted to explore how a traditional folk rhythm could work within a modern electronic arrangement without losing its identity or becoming just another background element.

I also wanted the lyrics to remain connected to my homeland. They mention vineyards, traditional farmhouses, the wind, and the Plinian Spring in Manduria, a place closely linked to the history of my hometown.

The title reflects this combination. “Pulsica” brings to mind both pizzica and the steady pulse of electronic dance music.

My intention wasn't to replace tradition with something modern. I simply wanted to see what would happen if the two could play together, allowing the tambourine and the beat to find their own common language.

Keep listening.
