The Shadow Isn’t Me
“The Shadow Isn’t Me” is an electropop track about false accusations, manipulation, and broken trust.
The protagonist finds himself caught in a story someone else has created. He's accused, scrutinised, and drawn into a situation where every word seems to be turned against him. But the details don't add up, the evidence tells a different story, and repeating a lie doesn't make it true.
The song follows his journey from trying to defend himself to deciding that he no longer needs to take part in the game.
Its message is clear: other people may try to define us through their accusations, but we don't have to accept the identity they create for us.
The shadow they're chasing isn't me.

Verse 1
You showed up uninvited with that look in your eyes
Standing in the hallway, cutting through the white noise
Telling everybody that I took what was yours
But the cameras on the ceiling don't lie for nobody
You’re just spinning stories in an empty room
Trying to pin your shadows on the back of my coat
But I know what you wanted, I know what you came for
You were looking for a name to blame when you lost control
Pre-Chorus
My people told me, watch the hands that you shake
Don't you ever buy into the promises they make
Now you're checking my numbers, looking for a mistake
But I’m already gone, I’m too heavy to break
Yeah, I'm gone
Too heavy to break
Chorus
You’re just chasing a ghost in the crowd
Turning up the static, trying to scream out loud
No, I’m not the one who holds your key
And the shadow on the pavement isn't me
You’re just chasing a ghost in the crowd
Throwing my name where the lights burn out
No, I’m not the one you used to see
And the shadow on the pavement isn't me
Verse 2
Forty nights of calls that I left on read
Every little rumor that you put in my head
Then you brought a witness just to mess with my name
Saying that my handwriting’s all over the blame
But the ink doesn't match and the story is cheap
Go and tell your secrets to the people asleep
I won’t wear your guilt like a chain on my skin
You can knock on the door, but I’m not coming in
Throwing my name where the lights burn out
No, I’m not the one you used to see
And the shadow on the pavement isn't me
Bridge
The speakers are shaking, the concrete is weak
But you’re running out of lies to speak
I hear your footsteps fade in the heat
But they don’t belong to me
Run through the noise
Run through the flame
Say what you want
But don’t say my name
Final Chorus
You’re just chasing a ghost in the crowd
Turning up the static, trying to scream out loud
No, I’m not the one who holds your key
And the shadow on the pavement isn't me
You’re just chasing a ghost in the crowd
Throwing my name where the lights burn out
No, I’m not the one you used to see
And the shadow on the pavement isn't me
Outro
Not me
Chasing a ghost
No, it’s not me
BEHIND THE SONG
How it began.
There are situations in which someone tries to make you responsible for things you haven't done, turning their own version of events into a truth they expect everyone else to accept.
“The Shadow Isn’t Me” revolves around that idea.
I wanted to explore what happens when someone finds themselves accused, watched, and constantly forced to explain their actions, even when the facts tell a different story.
The lyrics mention security cameras, phone calls, witnesses, investigations, and even handwriting that doesn't match. These details make the situation feel almost tangible, creating a contrast between what people claim and what can actually be proven.
But the real point of the song isn't about winning an endless argument. It's about the moment when the protagonist realises that defending himself to someone who refuses to listen only keeps him trapped in the same situation.
The title expresses that distance. The shadow someone is trying to attach to him doesn't belong to him.
I imagined this story within an electropop track because I liked the contrast between an engaging musical rhythm and lyrics dealing with something far from light-hearted.
There's anger, certainly, but this isn't really a song about revenge. It's about recognising when boundaries need to be drawn.
We can't stop other people from telling their own version of events. But we can decide not to live inside the stories they create about us.
Keep listening.
