Debí Tomar Más Fotos

“Debí Tomar Más Fotos” brings a story of regret into a Latin-inspired summer night.

The bay, illuminated streets, crowded bars, and friends raising their glasses create the setting for a celebration that carries on, even while the protagonist's thoughts remain somewhere else.

He remembers someone who is no longer by his side and all the photographs he wishes he had taken. But more than the pictures themselves, he misses the embraces, the nights they spent together, and the moments he once thought would always return.

Created as a Spanish-language interpretation of “I Should've Taken More Pictures”, this version preserves the original theme while developing its own musical character through different expressions and imagery.

The words.

Intro

Ey

Otra noche de verano

Verso 1

Outro

Quizá esta noche beba de más

Quizá la música me ayude a olvidar

Pero entre luces te vuelvo a mirar

Como un recuerdo que no quiere pasar

BEHIND THE SONG

How it began.

After working on “I Should've Taken More Pictures”, I wanted to explore what would happen if I told the same story in Spanish.

I wasn't interested in translating every line word for word. A song isn't made of meaning alone. Its accents, pauses, and sounds also need to find their place within the music.

Spanish has a particular rhythmic character, especially in contemporary Latin music, that I find interesting. Certain expressions flow differently from English, allowing a melody to take on a new personality while preserving the original idea.

That's how “Debí Tomar Más Fotos” came about.

The English version is built around photographs, memories, and a celebration continuing despite someone's absence. I kept that feeling in the Spanish version, but allowed the language to suggest different phrases and images.

There's the sea, friends encouraging the protagonist to go out, the noise of a crowded bar, and the attempt to enjoy the evening while certain memories keep returning.

What interested me was exploring how the same story could change its expression when moving from one language to another.

I don't see this version as simply a copy of the previous one. It's another interpretation, with its own linguistic identity.

After all, the photographs we never took remain the same. What changes is the way we choose to talk about missing them.

Keep listening.
