Lù Lauru
Lù Lauru is a song inspired by a legend from Salento, born from a story my mother passed down to me over the years.
The track draws on a world of dark nights, old oil mills, ancient houses, shadows, and mysterious presences. Lu Laùru appears as an unsettling and elusive figure, able to enter dreams, take away your breath, and leave behind a fear that is hard to explain.
I wanted to turn this folk tale into music, while preserving its connection to dialect and to that atmosphere suspended between memory, superstition, and oral tradition.
This song brings together tradition and a modern sound, giving voice to a figure that belongs to the deep imagination of our land.

Intro
La mamma della maestra mia...
diceva che lo vedeva...
tra lu fumu ti lu frantoio...
quannu l’aria si facìa scura...
Ritornello
Era lu La-ù-ru...
veniva di notte...
alto e magro...
ti toglieva il respiro...
Era lu La-ù-ru...
non sempre lo puoi vedere...
ma lo senti addosso...
come un’ombra su di te...
Strofa 1
La notte con la candela
ma a iddu non ci pià-cìa
stava là, fermo e zitto
mazzu mazzu, sempre dritto
Poi all’improvviso arrivava
sopra lu piettu si cummìa
sentivi lu respiru scappare
e lu cori forti a tremare
Pre-Ritornello
Si avvicina...
non lo vedi...
lo senti ma non ci credi...
chiudi gli occhi...
ma ritorna...
stanotte ti fa dispetti...
Ritornello
Era lu La-ù-ru...
veniva di notte...
anima scura...
ti blocca il respiro...
Era lu La-ù-ru...
entra nei sogni...
ti resta addosso...
e non lo mandi via...
Strofa 2
A volte gatto, a volte bambino
a volte ride… ma non è lui
piccolo e scuro, con il cappello
se lo perdi… piange per quello
Sopra la terrazza faceva rumori
passi felpati, strani odori
alla fine tutto era spostato
come se fosse passato
Bridge
Ci li rubbi lu cappieddu
chianci e ti prometti tuttu
tra le mani nu tesoru
ma poi torna… La-ù-ru
A casa noscia lu chiamanu
lu ziu La-ù-ru… e già lu sapunu
tra li muri, intra lu scuru
sempre torna… La-ù-ru
Breakdown
Non parla...
ma lo senti...
sobbra lu piettu...
ti leva il respiro...
Ritornello finale
Era lu La-ù-ru...
veniva di notte...
anima dannata...
ti blocca il respiro!...
Era lu La-ù-ru...
lo senti vicino...
intra lu suennu...
non ti lascia mai...
Outro
lu La-ù-ru...
lu ziu La-ù-ru...
lu La-ù-ru...
BEHIND THE SONG
How it began.
“Lù Lauru” was born from a story my mother told me, connected to a figure from Salento’s folk tradition.
What struck me most was the way these stories remain alive across generations. They are not just frightening tales, but pieces of memory passed down by word of mouth within families, homes, countryside communities, and old oil mills. In those images there is an ancient world that still carries a strong presence today.
From that story came the idea of turning Lù Lauru into a song, trying to preserve its mystery, tension, and the strange fascination of a presence that is not always seen, but is deeply felt. I chose to use dialect because it was the most natural way to keep the original atmosphere of the story alive.
The song brings together two dimensions: on one side the legend, superstition, and oral tradition, and on the other the music, which gives this figure an even stronger and more immediate presence.
For me, it is also a way of giving value to what has been told to us by those who came before us. “Lu Laùru” does not come from an abstract idea, but from a family memory connected to the wider tradition of our land.
Keep listening.
