Non Mi Chiedere Come Sto

“Non mi chiedere come sto” (Don't Ask Me How I'm Doing) was inspired by a situation many people will recognise: someone disappears for months, sometimes years, then suddenly gets back in touch. They greet you warmly, ask how you've been, exchange a few pleasantries, and then, right on cue, comes the real reason for the call: they need a favour.

The problem isn't helping someone. It's the fake concern that comes before the request, as though a friendly greeting could somehow replace a genuine relationship.

The song tackles this everyday hypocrisy with irony, frustration, and a healthy dose of honesty.

Its message is straightforward: if you need something, just ask. But don't pretend to care about my life only because you want something from me.

The words.

Strofa 1

Mi chiedi come sto

ma non ti serve saperlo

lo fai per arrivare

a quello che devi chiedermi

mi dici “ciao carissimo”

e già mi viene male

perché dopo due parole

so già come va a finire

prima fai il gentile

poi mi chiedi una cosa

prima sembri presente

poi sparisci di corsa

e non è per il favore

non è quello il problema

è che fai finta di esserci

solo quando ti conviene

Pre-Ritornello

E allora dimmelo subito

dimmelo chiaro

non mi fare il giro

che tanto lo so

Ritornello

Non mi chiedere come sto

se non te ne frega niente

non mi chiedere come sto

se ti serve solamente

una scusa per parlare

una porta da aprire

un modo più pulito

per potermi chiedere

Non mi chiedere come sto

come sto

come sto

se non vuoi sapere

come sto

Strofa 2

Mi scrivi dopo mesi

con la faccina buona

“oh, da quanto tempo”

e poi parte la storia

“ti posso disturbare?”

“solo un minuto”

e quel minuto diventa

un favore muto

che se dico di no

sembro pure cattivo

se dico di sì

poi sparisci di nuovo

e non è per il tempo

non è per la fatica

è che mi cerchi solo

quando ti serve una vita

Pre-Ritornello

E allora dimmelo subito

dimmelo chiaro

non mi fare il buono

che tanto lo so

Ritornello

Non mi chiedere come sto

se non te ne frega niente

non mi chiedere come sto

se ti serve solamente

una scusa per parlare

una porta da aprire

un modo più pulito

per potermi chiedere

Non mi chiedere come sto

come sto

come sto

se non vuoi sapere

come sto

Bridge

E non mi offendo

se mi chiedi un favore

mi offendo se fingi

che sia amore

non mi dà fastidio

la cosa che vuoi

mi dà fastidio

che mi usi e poi vai

Ritornello finale

Non mi chiedere come sto

se non te ne frega niente

non mi chiedere come sto

se ti serve solamente

una scusa per parlare

una porta da aprire

un modo più pulito

per potermi chiedere

Non mi chiedere come sto

come sto

come sto

se non vuoi sapere

come sto

Finale

La prossima volta

fammi un favore

chiedimi il favore

e basta

BEHIND THE SONG

How it began.

This song came from something that genuinely gets on my nerves.

You know when you suddenly get a call or message from someone you haven't heard from in ages? Months have passed, sometimes years. They greet you with incredible enthusiasm, call you their dear friend, ask how you're doing, and act as though they've been looking forward to catching up.

And after the first couple of sentences, I already know where the conversation is going.

Because sooner or later, usually sooner, comes the request. A favour, some advice, a problem to solve. Something they need.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have no problem helping people. If I can lend a hand, I'm usually happy to do so. What bothers me is the little performance that comes before the request.

Why pretend to care about how I'm doing? If you genuinely cared, perhaps you would have got in touch when you didn't need anything.

And the most ridiculous part is that if you say no, you somehow end up looking like the bad guy.

“Non mi chiedere come sto” grew out of exactly that frustration. I wanted to turn an everyday situation, one that many people have probably experienced, into a song.

This isn't a song against people asking for help. It's about those who use friendliness as a convenient strategy whenever they want something.

That's why the ending says exactly what I think.

Next time you need a favour, just ask me directly.

We'll both save some time.

Keep listening.
